THE SMALL FARM INSTITUTE coordinates research and Extension outreach
to evaluate and develop alternative agriculture technologies.
We also develop marketing strategies to help maintain small family farm
operations. Located at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland
the Institute trains and educates local growers and technical specialists. Our research and
development includes tilapia, crayfish production, hydroponics, brambles,
herbs, and white asparagus which we have brought to market.

 |
|
EDUCATION SUPPORT for vocational agriculture teachers includes
week-long workshops on hydroponics as well as a classroom curriculum and working models in aquaculture.

EXTENSION WORKSHOPS in intensive
hydroponic production and aquaculture technology, particularly
recirculating fish production, have attracted participants from over 9
states and 12 countries. Ongoing demonstrations of culture systems,
plant field plots, and greenhouse experiments provide year-round
Extension outreach.
