This year be sure and visit St John's Methodist Church which had its original chapel raised, a new foundation laid, and the inside has now been restored. This is the church that the parson of the islands preached at, among others, and it is a very interesting place to visit. Handicapped accessibility has been added, when the chapel was raised, and the inside contains many sights from the old niello ceiling to the antique organs, the original pews, and an old potbellied stove to warm the congregation. The people from Deal Island worked hard and long to restore this piece of Eastern Shore Americana, and when you come down to the Skipjack Festival this year, be sure to go down Deal Island Road past the school, and the Church will be on your left, with the chapel behind it. |
