Worcester County residents are served by two hospitals: Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury and Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. There are also 70 physicians and 20 dentists with practices in the county. We have a state-of-the-art 911 system, and there are 40 full-time ambulance personnel manning 21 vehicles for emergency service. The entire Eastern Shore is linked, via helicopter, to shock trauma units and burn centers in Baltimore.
There are three nursing homes in the area: The Berlin Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, with 200 beds, offers a gracious residential setting for older residents and rehabilitation patients. Hartley Hall in Pocomoke City currently has over 100 beds. A new assisted living facility is being planned for Ocean Pines. Another housing alternative is the Gull Creek Retirement Community in Berlin, which offers three levels of care for 32 residents. |
