Let us be your escort on a tour of Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore
The Wicomico Historical Society can arrange custom tours of other historical and cultural sites on the Lower Shore. Some of the sites you might visit include:
Poplar Hill Mansion
Poplar Hill Mansion (circa 1805) is an excellent example of 18th century country Georgian architecture. It has a symmetrical approach to design. Much of the hardware, windowpanes, and intricate woodwork is
original to the home, including the heart of pine floors.
Chipman Cultural Center
The Chipman Cultural Center is believed to be the first African-American church and school on the Eastern Shore. Restored in 1994, the Center is a museum and community center, hosting cultural events and available for private functions.
Furnace Town Historic Site
The interpretive program at Furnace Town is an effort to bring to life the daily life activities of this 19th
century village. Artisans recreate the various crafts and professions that were part of Furnace Town
during its life.
Salisbury Zoo
Nestled along the banks of the Wicomico River in downtown Salisbury, it's been called one of the country's best small zoos.
Teackle Mansion, Princess Anne, MD
c. 1802; 1818-19. A highly elaborate example of Federal style architecture erected by Littleton Dennis Teackle, one of the most influential men of the early 19th century.
