DBW 2007 Photos & Tally

This year's Delmarva Birding Weekend enjoyed the best tally yet!

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this an amazing birding weekend and especially to all those who particpated. 187 different kinds of birds were spotted and are listed below. This year we also solicted your photos and here's what we got.

The pictures below were sent in by Chris Bennett. They were taken from the Cape May Lewes Ferry. The first four are of a Great Black Backed Gull.
The next five pictures of a Northern Gannet
were also sent in by Chris Bennett.
Chris also noted that the group at Thompson Island got great looks at a singing male Marsh Wren from less than 10 feet away.

Jim Rapp, new director of Delmarva LITE holding a Screech Owl during a bird watching trip on the Cape May Lewes Ferry, Thursday April 26. Jim is joined in the photo by two families traveling cross country from Indiana enjoying the countries birding locations and historical attractions. The photo was taken in the Crows Nest of the ferry MV Delaware.

Jim and fellow birder, Chris Bennett of the Delaware State Parks were both pleased with the many different birds they were able to see and explain to ferry passengers. The highlight was a group of diving Northern Gannets spotted on the return trip from Cape May near the Lewes Harbor. (see above)

Peggy Funk sent the photos below taken on the
Saturday "Warblers on the Water" trip.

Van Vogel sent these two pictures of Corker's Creek at Pocomoke River State Park, on the trip titled "Cypress & Songbirds".

Christopher Seymour took these shots on
the "Assateague Coast to Coast" trip.

These are of the Saturday afternoon "Shorebird Explorer" trip checking out Skimmer Island. Sent by Dr. Ellen Lawler

Thompson Island Trip
Sent by Jim E. Hall

These are a few of the photos my wife and I took this April. There is a not great picture of the a barred owl that we saw on the Prothonotary Paddle. Much more impressive in person. There were actually 2 called in by the guide and they spent quite a while with us and were quite vocal. I have a short piece of video with them trying to scare us off. A picture of a forster tern from the Moonlight Marsh Paddle also a great sunset from the same trip and one of the group. There are also a few pictures of Tangier unfortunately no birds in them but the day was gorgeous and the view as you pull into town is different than anything at home in New York.

We have been coming for several years now and always have a great time. This was the first time we have done the Moonlight Marsh trip and it was a beautiful canoe trip. Looking forward to next year.

Thanks
John and Peggy Jessup
