In the early days of the United States, Native Americans sustained the new settlers by sharing their way of life. Welcomed into villages along the rivers and bays of the Chesapeake region, the settlers learned to fish and hunt, plant crops, and to navigate waterways and forests.

Imagine meeting an Accohannock warrior who will teach you to track wild game. Or threshing wild rice along the river. Your understanding of the country's First People would be awakened. Your appreciation of this nation's history would be transformed.

Palisade Poles

The Living Museum will stand within a traditional palisade fence. These sturdy poles protected the original Accohannock villages. For a donation of $50 you can erect a memorial palisade pole which will circle the village. A plaque will be affixed with the name and home town of the donor. You will also receive a certificate describing the location and number of your palisade pole along with a photo of the plaque. A palisade pole can also be a gift or memorial for a loved one. And five palisade poles can be erected for $200.
